Sh2-308, nicknamed the Dolphin Head Nebula, is a massive interstellar bubble about 4,500 light-years away in the constellation Canis Major. It’s shaped by the powerful winds of EZ Canis Majoris, a massive Wolf-Rayet star nearing the end of its life.
Stretching roughly 60 light-years across, its faint blue glow comes from ionized oxygen, lit up by intense UV radiation from the central star. This nebula is a glimpse into the final stages of a massive star’s life, as EZ CMa is destined to go supernova.
