W63 (also known as G82.2+5.3) is a large and faint supernova remnant located in the rich star fields of Cygnus. It's part of the Westerhout Catalogue, first published in 1958 by Gart Westerhout using radio observations.
This remnant is extremely faint in visible light and shows up almost exclusively in the [O III] emission line, making it a challenging target. Long exposures and narrowband filters—especially [O III]—are essential to reveal its delicate filamentary structure.
This SNR is huge and was very difficult to frame. This is a 2 panel mosaic.
